Location and comfort are everything!
Appleby Sand Road B&B offers a casual country atmosphere of comfort and relaxation inside the city limits of Nacogdoches, Texas. We are located just a minute from Stephen F. Austin State University and as we say in East Texas "just a stone's throw" from historic downtown Nacogdoches recognized as "The Oldest Town in Texas".
Our guests are invited to watch television, browse the bookshelves, play billiards in the family room or simply relax on the grounds after a busy day of travel, work or sightseeing. There is plenty of room to relax outdoors with groomed walking trails, riding trails, and plenty of rest stops along each. You are likely to see deer, fox, raccoon, rabbit, squirrel, flying squirrels and many bird species as you roam or rest. We are 'a little bit of the country' right in the heart of the city.
History of the House
This quaint and cozy structure originally consisted of only 4 rooms and was a tenant house on the 250 acre estate of Edmund and Mary Ann McCuistion Hogan. In the 1940s the house became the residence of the Hogan's daughter, Geneva, and her husband, Lloyd Pulsipher. Over the next 60 years, Lloyd, a gifted carpenter, expanded the home to include 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 kitchens, a dining room and a living room. It was in this house that the current owners, Betty and Marye were raised. Now, we invite you to enjoy the beauty, comfort and history of our lovely home. We enjoy discussing not only the history of our house and property, but also of the town and community as our families have been long-standing members.
